BIOGRAPHY

Steve has one of the most wide-ranging practices at the ACT Bar. He is briefed to appear across diverse areas of law for plaintiffs and defendants, private litigants and corporations, government clients (Territory, NSW and Commonwealth) and insurance companies. He appears in a wide range of courts and tribunals ranging from the High Court to the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal and everything in between.

Steve was a prosecutor in the ACT Magistrates and Supreme Courts over a 12 year period. He has appeared as prosecuting counsel for Crown in approximately 40 Supreme Court trials (jury and judge alone) and well over 100 sentences and appeals. He has appeared as counsel assisting in numerous inquests and inquiries.

Apart from his regular advocacy and appearance work Steve has a large chambers practice providing advice and opinions on various areas of the law.

As part of his role as a RAAF Legal Officer Steve is exposed to many aspects of Administrative, Humanitarian and Military Discipline Law. He is briefed by the Director of Military Prosecutions and Defence Counsel Services in General Courts Martial and other Disciplinary jurisdictions. He has deployed to the Middle East and represents interests at CDF Commissions of Inquiry. He is an Assistant Inspector General of the ADF and undertakes inquiries into Service Related Deaths and other major incidents and reviews of other military inquiries.

Steve has a background in Organic Chemistry and a strong interest in forensic science and investigative methods and techniques and was a member of the executive committee of the ACT Branch of the Australia & New Zealand Forensic Science Society for many years.

Steve regularly presents at legal conferences on issues relating to civil litigation, criminal law, advocacy and evidence. Over his career he has served, and continues to serve, on numerous associations and committees relevant to the advancement of the profession.
